Naija Food: Journey Into The Mouthwatering World of Nigerian Recipes
I'm an international student in the United Kingdom who has found it difficult to get Nigerian food in the street of London and even when I do they’re very expensive and I do not get the actual Naija taste.I really missed getting homemade meal in the UK and I know there are many of us who really missed the actual taste we get in Nigeria.
I love to share the really Naija recipes to give the actual Naija taste in our meal . This blog is not only for international students, it’s for everyone interested in getting that original Naija taste .
This week’s post we will delve into the original Naija Jollof Rice.Nigerian jollof is a popular and special meal in every occasion and household in the country.
Ingredients for a smoky party jollof
.Tomatoes paste
. Tomatoes
. Red bell pepper
. Bonnet pepper
. Onions
. Garlic
. Ginger
. Groundnut oil
. Cooking butter
. Bay leaves
. Curry/thyme
. Meat/ chicken Stock
. Folic paper
. Rice
STEP IN PREPARING NAIJA JOLLOF RICE
- STEP 1:wash all the pepper ,ginger ,onions and garlic and roast in your oven to give a smoky taste and blend all together after and keep aside.
- STEP 2:Get a clean pot and heat up the groundnut oil and go in with the tomatoes paste and onions let it fry well then go in with your blended pepper and add all the seasonings let them fry well for about 8-10mins
- STEP 3: Get your washed rice and pour into the pepper mix pot turn it together cover with the foil wait for about 3mins then going in with your meat stock or chicken stock and cover the pot let it cook for about 8mins then add hot water in proportion depending on the quantity of rice cover the pot and wait for it to get cooked
- STEP 4: To get the exact taste slice tomatoes and onions and put in the butter and mix it together and let it cook.
This should be how your Naija Jollof Rice should look like after cooking.
